Reflection on peer reviews for online lesson

What did you like and dislike about online teaching?

I liked that it was a new interesting platform that was fairly easy to navigate. I like that I did not compromise engagement as I was able to communicate verbally with my "students" and interact with them. I don't have anything specifically that I disliked as I think my lesson went well for my first time on an online platform however I have a some things that I would do differently.

What new skills did you learn through this experience?

Through this experience I learnt how to improvise and make use of cool, new, fun online tools that I would not have known worked well if I had not had this experience. I also learnt time management skills as I was given a certain amount of time to teach my lesson in. I learnt to think through ideas and add things or make changes on the spot and I learnt to support myself and be self confident and motivated. Regular feedback requests is another skill I learnt as I would constantly ask them questions and if they understand what is going on in the lesson.

What would you do differently?

I would not do much differently, the only thing I would change would be adding more examples for certain concepts since the topic I was teaching was more on the practical side and add more explanations in some instances.

Did you choose appropriate tools to teach your online lesson, explain why?

Yes I did, I used a power point presentation with fun, creative slides that explained the content of my topic that I was teaching. I also made use of an online tool called quizziz which was a mini game quiz with multiple choice questions on what they learnt. It was a great success as my learners engaged well with it and it was easy to navigate hence that is why I know my tool was appropriate.

How has this experience developed you for teaching in a school?

Teaching online can greatly contribute to my development for teaching in a school setting. Teaching online requires us to be proficient in utilizing digital tools and technology platforms. This proficiency translates into valuable technological skills that can be applied in a traditional classroom environment. By incorporating digital resources and interactive learning methods, teachers can create engaging lessons that cater to diverse student needs. This experience has developed me for teaching in a classroom setting and it gave me the ability to adapt instructional strategies to meet individual student needs. It also promotes cultural sensitivity and inclusivity within the classroom. Having this online experience provided me with valuable opportunities for professional growth that directly translate into enhanced capabilities for teaching in a school environment. The technological proficiency gained, improved communication skills, adaptability with diverse learners, and effective time management all contribute towards becoming a more well-rounded educator equipped for success in any school setting.
